First Holy Communion
“The day of First Holy Communion is also a great day of celebration
in the parish. I remember as though it were yesterday when, together
with the other boys and girls of my own age, I received the Eucharist
for the first time in the parish church of my town. This event is usually
commemorated in a family photo, so that it will not be forgotten. Photos
like these generally remain with a person all through his or her life.
As time goes by, people take out these pictures and experience once
more the emotions of those moments; they return to the purity and joy
experienced in that meeting with Jesus, the one who out of love became
the Redeemer of Man.; Pope John Paul II
In the Diocese of Cork and Ross (and in this school) children who are in Second Class are prepared for the Sacraments of First Penance and First Holy Communion. Children must receive the Sacrament of Penance before they receive their First Communion.
Apart from the programme of work carried out in the class, parents are
asked to bring their children to monthly Do this
in Memory Masses. A meeting is held at the start of the
school year outlining the Do this in Memory Programme, providing dates
for the monthly Masses outlining all aspects of preparation for the
Sacraments. In the 2010/11 school year, the first of these meetings
was held on September 14.
Dates for the Sacraments of First Penance and First Holy Communion are circulated to parents as soon as the school has been informed.
Date for First Holy Communion: Saturday May 28th 2011
