Global and European Citizenship
Monday 20th of June 2011 the school community at Upper Glanmire participated in a day of action. The objective was to raise awareness of our roles in Europe and this was part of the Green Schools program. During the action day Miss O' Halloran made delicious fruit smoothies using fairtrade bananas for Juniors and Seniors infants. Aisling Moran talked to first and second class about her volunteer work for Chernobyl. It is easy to forget about children in need. We really enjoyed listening to her interesting stories. Birgit O' Driscoll from the Green Schools program taught an interesting lesson to the senior classes about global populations and food distribution. We were all delighted to welcome MEP Seán Kelly to the halla which was beautifullydecourated with flags of Europe made by fifth class. Mr. Kelly spoke to us about his busy job as a member of the European Parliament. He explained to us how he represents us in Europe along with eleven other Irish MEPS .

Fashion Show
The Upper Glanmire Community Association Fashion Show was held at The Vienna Woods Hotel on Friday May 19. Several children from the school took part along with Ms. O'Halloran, Mr. Horan, Mr. Scanlon and Ms. O'Connor. It was a very exciting event and we are glad that it proved to be an excellent fund-raiser for the Community Association and will assist with the completion of the New Community Hall.
