Catholic Ethos and Patronage

Scoil Náisiúnta Naomh Micheál is under the patronage of the Catholic Bishop of Cork and Ross. The Board of Management is elected every 4 years and comprises 2 representatives of the Patron, 2 representatives of the teachers, 3 representatives of the parents (one father and one mother) and 2 agreed representatives of the wider community. The Board of Management is responsible for the direct governance of the school. Members of the current Board of Management are;

Scoil Náisiúnta Naomh Micheál is a Catholic School and we work in close
co-operation with the priests of Glanmire Parish. Children are prepared
for the Sacraments of First Penance or Reconciliation (formerly First
Confession) and First Holy Communion in Second Class. Children in Sixth
Class are prepared for the Sacrament of Confirmation. Boys wear blazers
for First Holy Communion. Please note that The Parents Association will
collect a fee for the administration, replacement etc. of school blazers.
Boys and girls wear Confirmation robes and a fee will be charged for
the rental of these in Sixth Class.
Catholic Religion is taught for 30 minutes every day in all classes.
Children of other denominations or of no denomination are required to
stay in the class during religion lessons and will be involved in activities
that are arranged by the class teacher. It is not possible to make provision
for the delivery of religion lessons of other denominations.
Pupils of Scoil Náisiúnta Naomh Micheál attend Mass at the local Catholic
Church from time to time. Children from other denominations will be
required to attend the church on these occasions though they will not
be require to take part in the Mass etc. Preparation for the Sacraments
of Reconciliation, First Holy Communion and Confirmation require extended
visits to the church. Children of other denominations will be required
to accompany their classmates to the church and will be given alternative
activities during these preparation sessions.
